I have not really picked up a camera in the last couple of months.
I have been focussing on my online art supply business, making improvements, revising products and trying to get some SEO done on the site. (www.terryharrisonart.com by the way). I have also been trying my hand at some watercolour and ink work so that I may be able to showcase some of my wares.
I have missed the camera work though, so have come up with an amazing idea…. I hope!
I am going to attempt a monthly project, announcing a theme for each month and challenging myself to go out each day and capture an image relating to that theme. I want to document my thinking and processes on this blog as well as on social media. I also want to use the images I take as subject matter for art works as a way of forcing me to improve my panting techniques. These will be documented via the blogs on that website.
A tall order - but with a clear aim:
By focusing on a subject for a month it will force me to really explore the various facets of that subject, to conceptualise and consider different approaches to framing, composition and storytelling. I don’t want to end up with a series of generic images. I want to end up with 30 images that show how my thinking has evolved over the month.
When I manage (not if) this for a full month, I hope that certain habits will begin to form which I can cement in future months.
I have an initial list of topics that I captured yesterday in our allotment whilst enjoying the late afternoon sun:
