Day 10 - a different approach

As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, one reason for the project is to force new habits and try new things, so today I decided to leave the Sony at home and just go out with the iPhone 15.

The plan was for a gentle walk along the Durham riverside to try and catch some boating and reflection images.

Well it went to plan but whilst there I have to say I did miss the Sony, there were so many little compositions that I needed a longer focal length for, or more control of the image.

But in some ways the experiment worked really well because I didn’t have it. I had to look at the wider image and I have a bunch of potential images in my mind now for an area of riverside that I’ve walked countless times before.

None of the images are edited, they are straight from the phone

This first is looking back at a boat returning using the arch as a frame for the image.

I wanted the single boat in the center of the arch, but missed the number 2 on the right. The subject was also dark and by the time they were in the light…

They were off center.

This is such a picturesque bridge though with gorgeous arches, so I’ll be back next week for another attempt. The uk is in a heatwave for the next week so there will be lots of people on the water.

This overhanging bough is wonderful to sit under, the water reflections ripple on the leaves in the sun and it’s very calming. It’s a great place to sit and watch the rowers pass by

Or the paddle boarders, this must be a great way to see the river.

Finally here are some reflections and leaf images

This process worked well, for a quick day with minimal set up and editing, the phone app for Squarespace is brilliant.

Just being out with the phone was also quite freeing, it was more about what caught my eye rather than trying to create an image, so a lot for me to think about.

Thanks for reading!
