Day 20 - After the rain

We had exciting time yesterday - finally some rain and not just some pathetic drizzle, actual heavy rain for a sustained time!

So a long couple of hours walking round Durham was in order, testing the weather fastness of my kit, as well as my outgear. I am please to say that the camera held up better than my jacket which wetted out after an hour.

I do have a small issue with water collecting in my hotshoe and footing the camera into thinking that there is an accessory attached, so will need a new hot shoe plate to stop that from happening.

I also think a little water may have gotten into may exposure adjustment dial, as it was permanently set to +0.7 regardless of where the dial actually was, and whenever I was in aperture mode the images were getting a little over exposed.

So I ended up shooting a lot on Manual, which was a good refresher and made me think a little more.

I do love a bit of rain - it brings out such a wealth of different colours and shapes as people try and fend off the water. It makes for some interesting subjects and people are less likely to notice as well - it makes for a great introduction to people photography in the street as you can get quite close!

All these images are being edited with a new slightly lower contrast, brighter approach at the moment - I have a preset I am tinkering with which I can then adjust once applied. This is beginning to result in some consistency in editing and a style of sorts - although more refinement will come I am in no doubt!

The rain can tend to wash out base colours, so I took the opportunity to photo some bright objects and with some masking have desaturated the surroundings to make some colour pop images too:

Which I am particularly happy with! I will share some more tomorrow as I may use some more of these in my gallery for the month.
